D-lineman to be a tiger!

For Jomarcus Savage the decision was quite simple.

It wasn’t about playing time, or distance from home or even which school had the best facilities.

Savage will sign with Auburn.

When it came down to choosing between Auburn and Tennessee, Savage went with his heart.

“Auburn just felt right,” said Savage. “There’s just no better way to put it than that.”

Savage made the official announcement Wednesday morning at J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Ala., following a heated recruiting battle between the Tigers and Vols.

Savage visited Auburn Jan. 11 but said he reached his decision a couple of days after returning home from his Tennessee visit Jan. 18. He cancelled a visit to South Carolina Jan. 24.

Auburn recruited Savage as a buck linebacker, which would allow him to line up as a defensive end in AU’s base 4-3 scheme and as an outside linebacker in the 3-4.

His decision gives Auburn 27 total commitments for the 2008 class and more importantly, five potential defensive line commits, always a high priority in any Auburn class.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Savage said he runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and has a 325-pound bench press, 510-pound squat and 30-inch vertical leap.

Savage had a big senior season tallying 76 tackles, 24 tackles-for-loss and 12 sacks.

Savage will sign with Auburn on National Signing Day, Feb. 6.
