JAY JACOBS

WHY WASNT GILL HIRED!??!?!?!? I WANT ANSWERS!

7:17 PM SATURDAY

 From the ISU athletic director…

“Gene (Chizik) confirmed for me today that he is accepting the head coaching position at Auburn. I’m disappointed for our Iowa State fans and student-athletes that he has chosen to leave our program after only two seasons. I understand that it (Auburn) is a dream job for him, but the timing and the way it played out has been hurtful and disappointing. Although this is a significant set back, we will get through the challenge because the Iowa State University athletics program is far greater than one person.”

3:47 PM SATURDAY

Gene Chizik was not on the plane. Jay Jacobs and two assistant athletic directors got off of the plane. They briefed the media for a minute.

Jacobs said, “We’re still in the process, we’re moving along. I think if everything continues to go well, I’ll have the process narrowed down pretty well. We’ll go from there.”

Someone then followed with, “Is it true or false about hiring Gene Chizik?”

Jacobs responded, “We’re still just working through the deal.”

There were approximately 20 fans at the airport with at least one of them booing Jacobs when he got off the plane.

FIRE JAY JACOBS IF THIS HAPPENS

YOU PICKED THIS GUY TO BE OUR HEAD COACH?!?!

Gene Chizik? When you could have chosen Turner Gill? I don’t understand. It’s a lateral move at best from Coach Tuberville to Chizik. We didn’t need a homerun but we needed to make a splash. Coach Gill would have been that guy this University needs! Today, I am not proud to be an Auburn Tiger – and I blame you Jay Jacobs.  No recruits want to hear what Gene Chizik has to say after Saban, Meyer, Richt, Nutt, and now Mullen sit down with them. Winless in the Big 12. Marginal recruiter, at best. No personality. No charisma. No national recognition. Nothing positive emerges from this. This proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that we have the worst, most inept, most pathetic athletic department, combined with the most damaging outside booster influence in all of college football. And apparently, zero leadership at the top of the university who could step up and stop this monumental blunder. We hired our absolute worst candidate. Yeah, lets get the fan base behind this one, ppppffffft. I stand behind Auburn until the day I die, but I will not stand behind Jay Jacobs and this decision, a decision that is pumping our program full of meritocracy War eagle auburn.

BE A VISIONARY JACOBS! HIRE GILL – NOT CHIZIK!

Say It Aint So….

In the end, sources close to the search say, the two finalists were Chizik and Buffalo coach Turner Gill. And the nod, at least for now, has gone to Chizik. It became obvious days ago, before Chizik’s name surfaced, that Gill was the favorite of most fans. Would Gill win more at Auburn than Chizik? There really is no way to say. But what is obvious today is that, fairly or unfairly, Chizik would be the most unpopular choice in modern Auburn history.

Chizik to Auburn?

According to auburnundercover and auburnsports Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik the leading candidate for Auburn’s head coaching position at this time. Chizik had an impressive interview with AD Jay Jacobs Thursday but his 5-19 record (2-14 in the Big 12) in two years as a head coach would be a tough obstacle to overcome.

Also, while ISU is certainly not an easy school to recruit to, Chizik’s first two classes in 2007 and 2008 ranked 60th and 62nd respectively in the Rivals.com team recruiting rankings. ISU’s 2009 class, which includes 16 public commitments, is currently ranked 76th.

Chizik had much more success as an assistant at both Auburn from 2002-04 and Texas in 2005-06. His 2005 defense ranked 10th nationally helping Texas to the National Championship. Chizik’s 2004 defense led the nation in scoring as Auburn rolled to an undefeated season. He also earned the Frank Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant in 2004.

Chizik coached three straight Jim Thorpe Award winners: Auburn’s Carlos Rogers in 2004, Texas’ Michael Huff in 2005 and Aaron Ross in 2006.

-the only thing about this that would please me would be if they were interviewing to gauge his interest in a DC position…

Pull the trigger JJ

Auburn will become THE media darling with this man as coach…
