Come and listen to my story ’bout a coach named Lane

Well, the first thing you know when Lane became aware
The kin folk said “Lane, move away from there.”
Said “Californy is the place you oughtta be!”
So they left a Vol pup,
And they moved to USC.
But Tennessee has already lost at least one prospect that was hours from attending his first class in Knoxville. Four-star DT Brandon Willis (Duncan, S.C./James F. Byrnes) and four-star DE Corey Miller (Duncan, S.C./James F. Byrnes) were both planning on enrolling early. But that’s all changed now.
Willis was getting ready to head to Knoxville to start classes when the news broke. He ruled out becoming a Vol and said that his options are open to out-of-state programs.”I am not going to Tennessee, I am not going to South Carolina, I am not going to Clemson,” Willis said. “I am not sure what I am going to do now. I am going to sit down with my dad and talk about it.”
North Carolina, UCLA or perhaps Auburn may end up with the nation’s No. 9 defensive tackle prospect. One place he won’t be going is USC, even though the outgoing Vols coaching staff tried to get him to follow them to Los Angeles.
At this rate, Lane Kiffin is an 8-5 season at USC away from a $50 million contract to coach Peyton Manning and the Colts.
Seriously, why not? Why wouldn’t he just keep rising up the coaching ranks on the basis of nothing much at all? If a 31-year-old with no head-coaching experience can get the Oakland Raiders job, and a guy who got fired from that job after losing 15 of 20 games can get the Tennessee job, and a guy who went 7-6 in a reckless first season in Knoxville can get the USC job … is there any rung of the sport to which Kiffin cannot climb?
I mean, what if he actually does something impressive as a coach? Win a conference title and they might just fast-track him into the Hall of Fame.
Paris Hilton has paid more dues than Lane Kiffin.
