At Chiziks hire… who was this guy?

Probably someone you would scoff at and really not like to see on the street.  With the departure of Tubbs and the Hire of Chizik.  Gene came from a no body school to become the head coach of Auburn University?? Really? That was probably your reaction, id be a fool to admit I wasn’t questioning the hire as well.  Of course I had faith in Chizik as a Defensive Co-ordinator and his skills to work with a winning program.  Look at 2004, AND 2005.  Back to back undefeated seasons as a coodinator.  He practicly laid the ground work for Muschamp’s career.  Afterall the 2005,2006 Auburn tiger Defense Learned from CGC, as well as the Texas Defense.   And after one season, we all love the hire… he believes in the Auburn Creed- dont remember it? Allow me to Refresh your memory…

THE AUBURN CREED

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.”

And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.
-George Petrie (1945)

So that embraces the direction Auburn is heading.  CGC and staff believe in it, it is also something Jay Jacobs had to instill into the football program, basketball program and baseball program.  Interesting things he been associated with at Auburn University(in completely random order):
  1. In December 2005, Auburn signed a five-year contract with Under Armour Performance Apparel to be the official outfitter of the University’s athletic teams. The five-year contract, worth over $10.6 million in sponsorship, product and additional benefits, provides Auburn’s athletic teams Under Armour uniforms, cleats, apparel and accessories.
  2. Auburn also extended its multi-media rights contract with ISP Sports in April 2006 for an additional nine years following previous agreement that concluded in 2007. The new terms include revenue to the Athletics Department of an average of more than $5.8 million annually, more than double the previous contract of nearly $2.4 million per year.
  3. The approval in June 2007 of a new $92.5 million state-of-the-art basketball arena and practice facility ranks among Jacobs’ most significant accomplishments. Groundbreaking for the new arena began in the summer of 2008 with the facility opening prior to the 2010-11 season
  4. Before becoming AD, As the Senior Associate Athletics Director in charge of Tigers Unlimited from 2001-05, Jacobs oversaw fund-raising efforts that secured approximately $60 million in gifts the last three years. He spearheaded a $90 million capital campaign, the largest in Auburn athletics history.
  5. He started for the 1983 Pat Dye team, which was one of the best in Auburn history and an SEC Champion.
  6. He provided us Auburn fansa new $2.9 million high definition (HD) video display scoreboard in the south end zone. The first of its kind in the Southeastern Conference, the HD display measures approximately 30 feet high by 74 feet wide.
  7. And Let us not forget the new 110 yard indoor practice facility being added for our teams to practice during inclement weather.

So, even though we might have not agreed with you at the moment Jay, Cheers to you on all you have done, through thick and thin.  You have kept your eyes on the goal and stood your ground and your belief. You knew you had what it takes to be an Auburn Man. Work, HARD WORK.

I liked a friends page, giving credit to Jay Jacobs.  I felt a little props from the Auburntron.com crew wouldnt hurt either.
