GameDay on the Plains

It appears as though people are starting to take notice. Auburn football is on the rise.

Auburn will be host to the GameDay four: Fowler, Herbstreit, Corso and Howard when the hometown Tigers take on little brother Clem.

And so it begins…

After what has seemed like a very loooooooooong summer sans-Auburn football, the time has come for daily, no HOURLY, check-ups of everything Auburn in anticipation of the upcoming season.

As the Tigers report today for the start of Fall practice, let me be the first to say “Welcome back, Tiger fans!”

It has been a difficult, yet exciting off-season. We have watched intently from a distance as our coaches reloaded during National Signing Day and through spring training and the posts here have been few and far between. I know I haven’t posted anything in quite a long time, but the anticipation has gotten to be too much for me so I’ll start us off this 2010 season.

I can’t think of an off-season that has gotten me so excited as this one. From the seniors we return and the incoming freshman that we welcome to the cohesion of our coaching staff, this summer has definitely been a blast.

BUT I’M GLAD IT’S ALMOST OVER!

If you haven’t done so already, make sure you head over to www.auburnwareagle.com and check out the new site and be sure and register at MyTiger for access to additional Auburn tidbits.

Ladies and gents, college football is around the corner. Soon the leaves will start to turn and the sweet smell of bourbon will fill the air.

From us here at Auburntron, WAR DAMN EAGLE!

What say you?

The passion is back

The good folks from West Virginia must have wondered what kind of crazy, fanatical, severe-weather-ignoring lunatics they have down on the plains. They found out. And soon enough, so will everyone else: The passion is back on the plains.

“By far the best and classiest and nicest place and fans of any of the away games I’ve ever been to.”

La Tech fans converse about their trip to the Plains.

Oh how soon we forget…

Just another example that the TailgateGuys venture is just the latest ploy by the University to extract more money from fans or force their removal from campus.

Plainsman article from August 2008

Big Cat Saturday Night @ Toomer’s

Around 9 pm a crowd started to gather at Toomer’s Corner. Why you ask? For the first “Toomer’s Corner Walk-Through” where Auburn fans get a chance to rub elbows with some of the nation’s top football  recruits. Of course the tree was rolled and of course all the Auburn cheers were sung, but the most important thing was for these recruits to see how serious Auburn is about getting them here to play football. Coaches Taylor and Looper fired up the crowd. Coach Taylor even added a little spice by breaking out his famous chest-bumps with all the recruits. Everyone was in great spirits and every recruit seemed to be having a wonderful time.

Before we get to the pictures, I just want to add that yes my camera sucks and yes I’m not a fantastic photographer. Additionally it was dark obviously and taking pics of people constantly moving through a large crowd and toilet paper will test anyone’s abilities.

That being said….here’s some of the better shots.

QB competition wide open headed to spring

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Gus Malzahn isn’t picking favorites among the contenders for No. 1 quarterback leading up to Auburn’s spring practice.

The Tigers’ new offensive coordinator said Kodi Burns won’t automatically hold onto that top spot. In fact, Malzahn said he won’t go into the spring with an established pecking order, giving all the quarterbacks a shot at running his no-huddle, spread offense.

“It’s going to be wide open,” he said Wednesday. “We’re coming into this thing new and everybody’s starting new, and they’re going to have to earn it.”

He said Burns, Neil Caudle, redshirt freshman Barrett Trotter and possibly Chris Todd will receive comparable practice repetitions to start spring practice on March 24, but Malzahn hopes to narrow it down “as soon as possible.”

Burns, who is trying to learn his third system in three years at Auburn, started the final six games of last season but was inconsistent passing.

Signees Tyrik Rollison and Clint Moseley will join the mix in fall camp.

“They’re all starting new,” Malzahn said. “And I think anytime you’re putting in a new system and new coaches at every position, that needs to happen.”
