SEC Tourney – AU draws UGAy

All we have to do is beat the dog’s and we get another chance at the Updyke’s…

Coach Mike Pelton

src=”” alt=”" />

New D-Line Coach, Mike Pelton, back when he wore #50 and was an all SEC Defensive Lineman.  Coach Pelton replaces Auburn Legend Tracy Rocker who is now with the Tennessee Titans.   Pelton has big shoes to fill, but this is a great hire.  Pelton coached with Chizik at Iowa State so the two have a great repor.  But most importantly, Pelton is an Auburn man through and through.  There is no doubt in my mind he will recruit and coach with passion for Auburn.  WDE.

Is this Harvey Updyke?

This is a video from way back in July on Youtube of a few Bama fans talking preseason football (2010 season) chat. The guy leaning in the window certainly looks and sounds like “Al from Dadeville”

AUBURN, AL (WBRC) – A man has been arrested in connection with the poisoning of trees at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn.

WTVM-TV in Columbus, GA, said Harvey Almorn Updyke, 62, of Dadeville, had been charged with Criminal Mischief. WTVM-TV attributed the news of the arrest to a source at the Lee County Justice Center.

School officials, in a statement Thursday morning, announced plans to hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. in front of Samford Hall to discuss developments in the poisoning of Toomer’s Oaks.

FOX6 News plans to carry that news conference live on FOX6 and

Wednesday, Auburn University announced the oak trees at Toomer’s Corner had been given a lethal dose of herbacide.  School officials said horticulturalists were attempting to save the trees, but did not believe the trees would survive.

Investigators began examining the trees after a caller to the Paul Finebaum Radio Network said he had poisoned the trees. Finebaum told FOX6 News local, state and federal investigators were looking into the story, which began on his show on January 27 when a man calling himself “Al from Dadeville” called in to the show claiming to have poisoned the trees. The man said he poisoned the trees the week after last year’s Iron Bowl because he said he saw a newspaper clipping from 1983 showing Auburn fans rolling Toomer’s Corner the day former Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant died.

Toomer’s Corner oaks poisoned with herbicide; unlikely to survive

AUBURN – Auburn University today confirmed that an herbicide commonly used to kill trees was deliberately applied in lethal amounts to the soil around the Toomer’s Corner live oaks on campus, and there is little chance to save the trees. More information and ongoing updates as to treatment and prognosis are available at
The City of Auburn Police Division is investigating the situation, and the application of this herbicide, known as Spike 80DF, or tebuthiuron, is also governed by state agricultural laws and the Environmental Protection Agency. The university does not use Spike herbicide. There is no reason to suspect any human danger from the herbicide, which manufacturer Dow Chemical says should be applied with proper clothing protection; a typical use of the herbicide is to kill trees along fence lines.
